Mesh filter changes to "none" in editor

I've noticed an issue where a sprite's mesh filter disappears and changes to "none" in the editor. I'm using Unity 4.5.5 and it seems to happen when a sprite is a child, but it might be happening elsewhere as well.
I downloaded the menu fix from this post:

that includes Rebuild All Sprites in the menu, which does work, but was hoping there might be a better solution since it only fixes sprites per scene and not through a whole project.

Try this fix here - it auto runs the fix at startup and should mostly work automatically.
